Gabriela Portelance

  • Profesora de inglés, norteamericana con varios años de experiencia
  • Avenida Mistral, Barcelona

I am seeking a position that will allow me to increase students’ proficiency in English while simultaneously creating an inviting classroom atmosphere that will be conducive to learning. My education in the area of political science bolsters my experience working as an EFL instructor. I have a strong command of the English language, and am able to easily communicate with students by altering my word choice or intonation.
I worked as an EFL instructor from January 2011 to October 2012 at E. Bo Young Talking Club. During that time, I taught 5-6 classes per day of students who were attending elementary and middle school. Each class contained students of varying abilities. At Languages4Life the Institute of North American studies, I taught levels ranging from elementary to advanced and prepared students for exams such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) and the First Certificate Exam (FCE).
I have incorporated a variety of instructive activities and games into my lesson plans that focus on a particular grammatical concept or discussion topic. The following is a list of key reasons why my lesson plans are successful:

  • Students are always very active in class, and they are often unaware that they are enhancing their vocabulary and learning grammatical concepts.
  • Students must be verbally communicative with each other when they are involved in activities. They often have to collect information from each other and report it back to the class.
  •  I try to vary my activities to maintain students’ attention. I often bring in or utilize topically relevant supplemental material such an engaging video or picture to generate interest in the class and spark discussion.
  • I modify any material that I use to cater to each student’s level and unique needs.
